We need your help with two of our
foster pets. Four pups were abandoned in the country and a very
nice lady took the pups in to keep them safe. Partnering for Pets,
Inc. took the pups in to help find homes for them.
We recently discovered that two of the pups are deaf. Sassy and
Blonde are deaf puppies. They are very sweet dogs and adjust to
their surroundings very easily. That is one reason we didn't pick
up on them being deaf.
These two pups will need a special home. They will need to be kept
indoors and will need to have a securely fenced yard.
If you know anyone that would open their heart to adopt one of
these pups, please have them contact us.

Please spay and neuter your pets.
Since Thanksgiving, we have been hit with several calls from
individuals needing to find home for unwanted puppies. Due to the
economy, adoptions have been slow and many of these puppies will
not find a home.
If your household income is under $35,000 per year, you may qualify
for low cost spay/neuter. Various organizations provide this
service, such as SpayOK.

A member of a nonprofit group that
works with children met one of our volunteers at a training course.
During a discussion between the two, the individuals who
volunteered with the daycare facility were concerned about a pet
that was donated to them. The pet was a hedgehog which is
nocturnal. They knew the pet was not comfortable in that
environment, but didn’t know who to contact about finding it
another home. After a phone call to one of our volunteers, we found
a good home for the hedgehog.
Exposing different types of pets to children is a great learning
experience for children, but the pet must be comfortable in the
environment. When choosing a pet, especially an exotic pet,
research and fully understand the needs of the pet before adding it
to the family.

Pet
Therapy
The loss of a loved one is difficult
for anyone, but the loss of an unborn child can be unbearable. We
recently helped a woman who had lost her unborn child. She was
having a difficult time with the loss and her doctor recommended
she get a pet. She was interested in a very energetic dog we had
for adoption. She was interested in this pet, since she had a
similar breed when she was a child. After some discussion, we
agreed the dog may be too much for her at this time and recommended
adopting a cat instead. After looking at the kitties available for
adoption, she found one that really grabbed her heart. Her face
light up and for that moment, the pain was gone. We will continue
to follow her progress and hope the kitty can help heal the
pain.

Keeping Pets

One of our volunteers has been helping
place two horses and a mule. Their owner needed to move, but didn’t
see how she would take her pets with her. After checking several
possibilities, a real estate agent (who also rescues pets) was able
to find the owner a home where she could keep the horses and mule.
Thanks to everyone’s efforts, another family can stay
together.

We recently helped a family, stay a
family. Due to economic times, a young adult needed to move back
home with her parents. The only problem was she has a pet ferret
that is part of her family. Her parents have a young cat that is
part of their family.
At first they were looking for a good home for the ferret. She
really didn’t want to give up her ferret, but she didn’t want to
see the ferret get hurt. After some coaching from one of our
volunteers who has a ferret and a cat as part of their family, the
ferret was able to safely stay with her owner. Last update, kitty
and ferret and getting along.

Today we received a call to help with
a female pit bull that was going to be euthanized. We didn’t have a
foster home available and our bank account is rather low, so we got
on the phone and started making calls.
We are happy to report another animal welfare organization provided
the funds to board this girl, a vet has volunteered to spay her and
provide shots, and we already have a family to adopt her.
It’s amazing what can be accomplished when we all work
together.

On January 5, 2009 we received an
email about a stray momma dog that had 12 puppies during the cold
weekend of January 3-4. This momma dog was dumped during the summer
months of 2008 with the rest of the litter mates, but she was never
able to be caught. As a result, she had a litter of puppies.
By the time we received the note, the situation was dire. The
individuals who were trying to help save the babies, were looking
for someone to help. We telephoned one of the rescuers to find out
how we could help. Once we found out only four of the twelve
puppies were alive, we made arrangements to pick up the puppies
that night. One of our volunteers drove out during the night to
meet one of the rescuers to pick up the surviving puppies. Once she
got them home, she started bottle feeding the babies. Even though
she works full time, she woke up every two hours to feed the
babies. That first week was very critical to their survival.
We are proud to say, all the puppies survived and are very healthy.
All have been adopted out to very good families. We appreciate all
the hard work of the rescuers and our foster moms to save the life
of the puppies. The puppies deserved a chance to live and through
the effort of everyone involved, they got their chance.
